 | The cold and treacherous waters of the North Sea: Alex goes hard...
| MP: Talk us through the process- when you first looked at the bracket, what were your thoughts? Who did you think would be tough or easy....what did you expect from yourself?
| AM: When i first saw the bracket i was nervous, first heat was maybe the easiest but every heat is hard for me. The night before i could not sleep, i knew that if i passed the first heat i would go against Jason, if i passed Jason i would get Klaas ¨local hero¨ Voget, but i didn’t want to think for the future who i was going to get, i went heat by heat and who ever i got was good. After Klaas i got Robby ¨machine¨ Swift incredible sailor with lots of competition experience in his belt. On the semifinals i got Antoine ¨bullet¨ Albeau, by this heat my arms and legs were about to explode but my desire of winning was greater, and finally for the great single elimination i got Josh ¨pitbull¨ Angulo, we all know how bad he wants the heats and what an incredible sailor he is, amazing a dream come true to beat Josh in a final. I wish the best to Josh for the future, thanks for being such a great sailor and pushing the young guys out there. Everyone out there is hard to beat, i wouldn’t say who is the hardest | MP: You have been one of the guys pushing the envelope and driving the level up to where it is now- what sort of training are you doing and what do you attribute your success to?
| AM: My training is all about my brain, how i am acting in different days, how the conditions are, lately i have been taking windsurfing more seriously, competition wise. The best trainer for this has been Brendan Pyatt, we have traveled a lot on the past 3 years, he has seen my development in and outside the water, he has always believed in me and has trained me to be the best on what ever conditions we get. Also a bit factor on this success has been my recent sponsors, Vandal with Dan and Tabou with Fabien, they have both created the best equipment for me, they have always treated me as one of them, with respect and also with a good vibe, with the right support and the right gear success comes alone. I am not just saying this because i got a first in Sylt, i am saying this because in the last 8 months my sailing has gone from good to great! | |
